Copper Hits New Record High at $14.6 Thousand Per Ton

Copper prices hit a new record high during today’s trading amid a surge of the metal flowing into the United States.

Three-month copper contracts on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.51% to $14,584 per ton, after earlier touching an all-time record high of $14,617 per ton.

The surge in copper follows gains exceeding 16% since the beginning of 2026, supported by supply disruptions linked to potential U.S. tariffs, which drove large quantities of the metal toward the United States over the past year.

Prices also benefited from a weaker dollar and growing expectations of increased copper demand, driven particularly by the expansion of data centers and electrical grids required to power the artificial intelligence boom.
